The Problem: Locating Parts Locating replacement parts for equipment, maintenance, overhaul and repair can be a challenge. Seals in hydraulic and pnuematic components have the potential for hundreds, if not thousands, of different o-ring sizes. OEM part numbers are often missing, seal dimensions are unspecified or unknown, and the parts themselves are unavailable from the OEM or local supplier. The Solution: Parker O-Ring Kits In response to the aftermarket need for seals, Parker has developed three oring replacement kits. Each kit contains the most popular sizes for a wide range of sealing applications. As a result, these kits provide multiple sealing solutions for the same cost as a single OEM replacement part. The Parker Boss Seal Kit contains 20 standard tube fitting sizes, ranging from 3/32 to 2 inches, that are ideal for hydraulic fittings. For most U.S.-built equipment, Parker AS568 Kit #1 contains 30 of the most commonly-used o-ring sizes for general applications. The rest of the world relies on Parker Metric Kit #1, which contains 32 of the most common metric o-ring sizes for compatibility with equipment made overseas. Materials The standard materials supplied with AS568 Kits and Metric Kits are nitrile rubber compounds N1470-70 and N1490-90. N1470-70 is compatible with most petroleum-based oils, greases, hydraulic fluids up to 121°C (250°F), as well as water glycol hydraulic fluid up to 48°C (120°F). N1490-90 is normally supplied for hydraulic fittings but also suited for general purpose applications. For more demanding sealing conditions, Parker offers a wide variety of polymer families including EPDM, Fluorocarbon and many others

Parker O-RING KITS

When part numbers are missing, seal dimensions are unknown, and the parts themselves are unavailable from the equipment OEM, these o-ring kits can save the day, not to mention hours of downtime. More than eight different standard kits give you a choice of compounds and o-ring sizes for a wide range of sealing applications. The end result? Multiple sealing solutions for the same cost as a single OEM replacement part. We’ll even build custom kits using any of our 200-plus compounds.

EXTRACTION TOOLS

These unique double-ended tools make life easier for those who have to frequently install or remove o-rings from hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders and equipment. Available in brass or plastic, with or without a convenient carrying case.

ASSEMBLY GREASES AND LUBRICANTS

O-LUBE is a barium base petroleum grease that prolongs the life of synthetic rubber seals. It offers excellent surface adherence and lubrication with inherent water resistance. It is recommended for low-pressure pneumatic systems, as well as reciprocating and low-speed oscillating or rotary applications. Parker O-Lube works well in a –20°F to +180°F temperature range. It is not recommended for silicone, butyl, or ethylene propylene rubber seals, or for use in systems with micronic filters.

SUPER-O-LUBE is a silicone lubricant that can be used with virtually any rubber polymer over temperatures ranging from –65°F to +400°F. Used sparingly, it will provide better environmental protection for the elastomer. It is particularly recommended for high pressure systems, as well as vacuum applications. Parker Super-O-Lube adheres with unusual tenacity and is highly moisture resistant. In addition, it will not clog 30-micron filters. O-Lube and Super-O-Lube are available in a variety of package sizes for use in kits, tool boxes, and more.

O-RING SIZING CONE

A unique measuring cone and circumference “Pi” tape provide quick and easy o-ring sizing information to determine the nearest standard Parker o-ring size. Please note: the cone and tape do not measure actual dimensions of a part and cannot be used for pass/fail inspections.

TypeO Ring
An o-ring is a torus, or doughnut-shaped ring, generally molded from an elastomer. O-rings are used primarily for sealing. They are also used as light-duty, mechanical drive belts. advantages of o-rings:

Features:
  • They seal over a wide range of pressure, temperature and tolerance,
  • Ease of service, no smearing or retightening,
  • No critical torque on tightening, therefore unlikely to cuase structural damage,
  • O-rings normallyng compound first, as the selected compound may have significant influence on gland design parameters. essentially, the application determines the rubber compound; the primary factor being the fluid to be sealed.
  • The elastomer however, must also resist extrusion when exposed to the maximum anticipated system pressure and be capable of maintaining good physical properties through the full temperature range expected.
  • In dynamic applications, the selected material must also have the toughness and abrasion resistance so important in reciprocating and rotary seals.
  • polymer families - select a polymer to view the available compounds offered within that family.
  • Polyacrylate (acm) ethylene acrylate (aem) butyl rubber (iir)polychloroprene rubber (cr)ethylene propylene rubber (epm, epr, epdm)fluorosilicone (fvmq)acrylontirile-butadiene (nbr)hydrogenated nitrile (hnbr, hsn)polyurethane (au, eu)silicone rubber (vmq, pvmq)fluorocarbon (fkm, fpm)tetrafluoroethylene-propylene (aflas)high performance fluoroelastomer (hifluor)perfluoroelastomer (parofluor)perfluoroelastomer (parofluor ultrable. require very little room and are light in weight,
  • In many cases an o-ring can be reused, an advantage over non-elastic flat seals and crush-type gaskets,
  • The duration of life in the correct application corresponds to the normal aging period of the o-ring material,
  • O-ring failure is normally gradual and easily identified,
  • Where differing amounts of compression effect the seal function (as with flat gaskets), an o-ring is not effected because metal to metal contact is generally allowed for,
  • They are cost-effective where to begin in designing an o-ring seal, it is best to determine the o-ring

Parker’s piston profiles are fluid seals specifically designed to function as piston seals in pneumatic and hydraulic cylinder applications. The outside diameter lip is designed to seal against the cylinder bore while the inside diameter lip is designed to seal the gland. For most non-symmetrical piston profiles, the size of the seal is slightly smaller in diameter than the gland diameter. When installed, the seal stretches into the gland to ensure a tight seal with the gland and improved stability in application. The vast symmetrical and non-symmetrical profile options, proprietary compounds, and size range establish Parker as a leader in the industry providing quality solutions for pneumatic and hydraulic applications
