Flow switches are used for the display and monitoring of the flow of liquid and gaseous media. The instruments feature a high switching accuracy and functional safety, low switch hysteresis and continuous switch point setting by the user.
Electronic flow switches offer the operator a local display of the flow values and, at the same time, an output of an electrical signal (PNP, NPN or 4-20 mA) for transmission to a remote control room. Thus, flow switches are used for the display and monitoring of the flow of liquid and gaseous media.
The FSD-4 flow switch is based on the calorimetric measurement principle. The temperature difference that occurs due to the cooling effect of flowing media is measured here. The flow rate can thus be calculated on the basis of the temperature difference.
Furthermore, the design of these flow measuring instruments allows exact monitoring of the temperature without the need to set up an additional measuring location. Calorimetric flow switches are also known as thermal flow monitors and are ideal for monitoring coolant circuits or for controlling filter units. Flow monitors / flow switches do not need any auxiliary power and work on the float measurement principle. A float activates a reed contact as soon as the flow velocity exceeds a preset value.
Electronic flow switches determine the flow via a calorimetric measurement principle. The cooling of a heated element is proportional to the flow rate of the fluid. With a known pipe cross-section, this yields the flow volume, which is specified in cubic metres per second (m³/s), for example. One advantage is that, with electronic flow switches, there are no moving parts - the measurement is made via a sensor rather than a paddle. This ensures wear-free monitoring of the flow. The model FSD-4 electronic flow switch from WIKA not only measures the flow, but also the temperature of the medium using the calorimetric measurement principle. It can thus be used both as a flow switch and as a temperature measuring instrument.

The SWITZER style CM paddle operated flow switches are versatile instruments meant to monitor a wide range of water flow. Simple design and rugged mechanical parts ensure high reliability. The deflection of the paddle assembly due to velocity of flowing liquid against the restraining force of the range spring through a bellows sealed lever operates the microswitch at a pre-determined flow rate. Glandless design ensures total isolation between the process medium and the switch mechanism.
The enclosure is protected against ingress of solid particles and from dripping water. Style CM-G Flow switches are for general purpose use. These are available for line sizes from 15 to 300 mm NB and can be used in a variety of applicstions to monitor no flow or loss of flow of water. For style CM-G, 1" screwed process connection is standard.
Style CM-S switches are specifically designed with large diameter flexible paddle for sprinker applications in fire safety systems and suitable for use in water pipes from 50 mm(2") to 150 mm(6") NB. The actuation can be set between 15 to 40 LPM in increasing flow as per international fire safety practice. Style CM-S is fixed to the pipe line using a saddle and U bolt and nuts.

The model FSFD was developed to detect the water flow in wet sprinkler systems once the sprinkler has been triggered. The flow switch is fitted with a pneumatic time delay mechanism that can be set from 0 ... 70 seconds via an adjustment dial to avoid false alarms during water surges.
The tamper-proof screws on the cover prevent unauthorised access to the switch point setting. The robust design, with IP56/NEMA4 ingress protection, is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. For error-free installation, the direction of flow is indicated on the case and on the saddle.
The model FSFD has two cable duct openings for two sets of SPDT switches (form C) in a fused terminal block, which provides a direct electrical connection to control panels and local audible warnings.
Since the flow switch is designed for pipe sizes from 2 ... 8" in various pipe schedules, it provides a complete solution for construction projects.
The model FSFD has been designed for improved sensitivity
